๐Ÿณ Sun Haven โ€” Cooking Guide

Data version: Sun Haven 1.7 | Covers kitchen upgrades, all recipe categories, ingredient sources, and meal buff optimization

Cooking in Sun Haven is one of the most powerful systems in the game โ€” not just for restoring health and mana, but for applying long-duration buffs that dramatically improve combat, mining, fishing, and farming performance. Unlike many farming sims where cooking is optional, in Sun Haven it is essential for endgame content. This guide breaks down every recipe category, kitchen upgrade, ingredient source, and buff strategy.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Cooking System Overview

Cooking requires a Cooking Station (also called a Kitchen), which is a craftable workbench purchased from the town. Unlike artisan equipment (Kegs, Preserves Jars), cooking produces instant-eat meals with buffs rather than processed goods for selling.

How it works: - Build a Cooking Station at your farm โ†’ place it indoors - Combine ingredients from farming, foraging, fishing, and monster drops - Each recipe produces 1 serving of a meal - Meals can be eaten for HP + Mana restoration and/or timed buffs - Your Cooking Skill levels up as you cook โ€” unlocking better recipes and quality bonuses

Tip: Build your Kitchen before the end of Spring. Even basic recipes like Toast or Fried Egg more than double the energy return of eating raw ingredients.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Kitchen Upgrades

The Cooking Station can be upgraded twice at the Carpenter Shop. Each upgrade unlocks more recipes and reduces cook time.

Upgrade Cost Recipes Unlocked Cook Time Reduction
Basic Kitchen 400 Tickets 15 starter recipes โ€”
Deluxe Kitchen 3,500 Tickets + 15 Iron Bar 20 additional recipes โˆ’25%
Gourmet Kitchen 8,000 Tickets + 20 Gold Bar + 5 Mithril Bar 30+ advanced recipes โˆ’50%

What each upgrade adds: - Basic Kitchen: All simple meals (Toast, Fried Egg, Salad, Roasted Vegetables), basic juices, and early desserts - Deluxe Kitchen: Sauces, complex entrees, multi-ingredient desserts, stat-boosting meals with +2โ€“3 buff tiers - Gourmet Kitchen: Endgame recipes including Elixirs, Gourmet Meals, and the highest-tier buff foods needed for Withergate and Nel'Varรญ boss fights

Tip: The Deluxe Kitchen is the best value upgrade โ€” it unlocks 90% of the recipes you'll actually use day-to-day. Save the Gourmet Kitchen for post-game when you're farming Withergate's rank system.

โšก Best Meals for Energy

Energy management is critical for long days in the mines, extended fishing sessions, or back-to-back dungeon floors. These meals give the highest HP + Energy return per inventory slot.

Meal Total Restore Buff Value Best For
Hearty Stew 200 HP + 50 Mana Combat +2 (1 hr) Deep mine dives
Explorer's Bento 150 HP + All Skills +1 All +1 (2 hr) Daily all-purpose
Dragon Steak 400 HP + Combat +3 ATK +15% (2 hr) Boss fights
Mana Noodles 50 HP + Mana Regen +3 Regen (1 hr) Magic-heavy combat
Starfruit Sorbet 60 HP + 180 Mana + Regen +4 Regen (1 hr) Mages and healers

Tip: Always carry 3โ€“5 Hearty Stews on mine dives. They restore more HP than any potion at this tier and the Combat +2 buff stacks with equipment bonuses.

๐ŸŽ Best Meals for Gifting

Each NPC in Sun Haven has loved, liked, and disliked gifts. Meals are almost universally liked or loved. Here are the most efficient gift meals:

NPC Loved Meal Ingredients Where to Find Ingredients
Anne Apple Pie 2 Apple + Flour + Butter Apple trees (Farming), Butter (Dairy)
Catherine Chocolate Cake 2 Cocoa + Flour + Butter + Sugar Cocoa (Nel'Vari), Sugar (General Store)
Jun Fish Steak Raw Fish + Butter Fishing in Sun Haven river
Liam Explorer's Bento Rice + Fish + Seaweed Rice (Nel'Vari), Seaweed (Beach fishing)
Claude Dragon Steak Dragon Meat + Pepper + Butter Dragon Meat (Withergate dragon bosses)
Xyla Shadow Brew 2 Shadow Berry + Void Essence Shadow Berry (Withergate), Void Essence (Mining)
Wesley Honey Cheesecake Cheese + Honey + Flour + Sugar Cheese (Dairy), Honey (Bee houses)
Darius Mana Potion Mana Flower + Crystal Mana Flower (Foraging), Crystal (Mining)

Universal gift tip: Cooked meals with a sell price above 200g are almost universally "Liked" by every NPC. This makes Pumpkin Pie (220g) and Chocolate Cake (250g) excellent all-purpose gifts when you don't remember individual preferences.

Tip: If you're grinding NPC hearts, mass-produce Honey Cheesecake. Cheese + Honey + Flour + Sugar are all renewable and the result is loved by 8+ marriage candidates.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Best Meals for Profit

While artisan equipment is generally better for pure profit, some cooked meals sell for significantly more than their raw ingredients. Use these when you have surplus kitchen capacity:

Meal Ingredient Cost(est.) Sell Price Profit Profit Margin
Honey Cheesecake 180g 390g 210g 117%
Starfruit Sorbet 140g 310g 170g 121%
Nectar Pudding 260g 480g 220g 85%
Shadow Brew 180g 340g 160g 89%
Chocolate Cake 150g 250g 100g 67%
Dragon Steak 380g 650g 270g 71%

Best pure profit: Honey Cheesecake โ€” easy ingredients, massive margin, and doubles as a universal gift. Set up a bee house early and you'll never run out of honey.

Best for combat-focused players: Dragon Steak โ€” the ingredients come from Withergate content so it's naturally gated to mid/late game, but the 270g profit per steak plus the best combat buff in the game makes it a no-brainer.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Cooking Skill Progression

Your Cooking Skill levels up as you prepare meals at the Cooking Station. Each level unlocks new recipes and passive bonuses.

5 Hearty Stew, Mana Noodles +15% cook speed, โˆ’10% ingredient cost

8 Gourmet recipes (Honey Cheesecake, Starfruit Sorbet) Gold meals restore +50% more

Fastest way to level Cooking: Mass-produce Apple Juice (2 Apples). It's the cheapest recipe per XP, apples are abundant from a single tree (which regrows every 3 days), and the cook time is short. Cooking 50 Apple Juices takes you from Lv 1 to Lv 6 in about 2 in-game days.

๐ŸŽฏ Tips for Efficient Cooking

  1. Grow an orchard early. Plant 2 Apple Trees and 2 Berry Bushes in Spring. They produce year after year and are used in a huge number of recipes.

  2. Honey is liquid gold. Set up a Bee House (Farming Lv 5) as soon as possible. Honey is an ingredient in 12+ recipes including the best profit meals. One bee house produces ~5 honey per week.

  3. Always cook in bulk. A single batch of 10 Hearty Stews takes the same real-time as cooking 1. Queue up stacks of 10โ€“20 meals at once.

  4. Know your buffs. Meals with the same buff type do not stack โ€” eating a Combat +2 meal then a Combat +3 meal only applies the higher value. However, meals with different buff types stack (e.g., Combat +2 from a meal + Move Speed +1 from a dessert + Mana Regen from a drink).

  5. Stock the fridge. Keep at least 5 of each of these in a chest near your kitchen exit: Hearty Stew, Explorer's Bento, Mana Potion, Honey Cheesecake, and Berry Smoothie. Grab 2โ€“3 each morning depending on your daily plan.

  6. Quality matters. At Cooking Lv 4+ you start producing Silver and Gold quality meals. A Gold-tier meal restores 50% more HP/Mana and extends buff duration by 50%. Prioritize cooking skill levels for this reason alone.

  7. Fish for ingredients. Many high-tier recipes require fish. The Sun Haven river has the most common fish, but the beach (east of town) unlocks saltwater catches used in premium meals.

  8. Use the Gourmet Kitchen for XP. Once you have the Gourmet Kitchen, the XP per recipe increases dramatically. Use it to push from Lv 8 to Lv 10 โ€” make Honey Cheesecake or Starfruit Sorbet for the best XP/hour.

  9. Don't sell Silver/Gold meals. Their sell price is barely higher than normal quality. Eat them instead โ€” the buff duration extension is far more valuable than the extra 10โ€“20 gold.

  10. Withergate and Nel'Vari have exclusive ingredients. Shadow Berry, Void Essence, Nel'Vari Nectar, and Elven Wheat unlock some of the best recipes in the game. Prioritize unlocking both zones for access to these ingredients.
