๐Ÿคฟ Coral Island โ€” Diving & Ocean Restoration Guide

Diving is Coral Island's signature mechanic โ€” it replaces the traditional mining gameplay loop with underwater ocean cleaning. Unlike Stardew's mines or Mistria's caverns, diving here is about restoration: collecting trash, salvaging artifacts, and progressively unlocking deeper zones as you clean the ocean floor.

๐Ÿ”“ Unlock Conditions

Requirement Details
Day Day 3 (after the introductory quests)
Quest "The Ocean Needs You" โ€” delivered via mail after Day 2
Tool Diving gear is provided by Ling (dock, south of farm)
Cost Free โ€” no upfront investment
Prerequisite Must clear 5 trash from the shoreline (quest step)

Tip: Don't rush to Mining on Day 3. Grab your diving gear from Ling and spend Days 3โ€“5 exclusively underwater. The early trash haul funds your seed purchases for Spring faster than any other activity.

๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Floor Structure

The ocean is divided into 5 distinct zones, unlocked by raising your Ocean Rank via cleaning trash.

Zone Ocean Rank Needed Depth Trash Density Notable Loot
๐ŸŒฟ Shoreline (Zone 1) None 0โ€“5m Medium Glass, Scrap, Common Artifacts
๐Ÿชธ Coral Garden (Zone 2) Bronze B 5โ€“15m High Kelp, Glass, Shells, Scrolls
โš“ Shipwreck Field (Zone 3) Silver B 15โ€“25m Very High Metal Scrap, Machinery Parts, Gold Chests
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Ancient Ruins (Zone 4) Gold A 25โ€“40m Medium Precious Relics, Crystals, Rare Artifacts
๐ŸŒŒ Deep Trench (Zone 5) Osmium S 40โ€“60m Sparse Osmium Nodes, Legendary Artifacts

Fast Travel Points

Unlocked at Ocean Rank Gold A. Costs 200g to activate each beacon:

Beacon Zone Unlock Cost
Dock Beacon Shoreline Free
Coral Arch Coral Garden 200g
Wreck Bridge Shipwreck Field 400g
Temple Gate Ancient Ruins 750g
Abyss Entrance Deep Trench 1200g

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Trash-to-Treasure Conversion

Every piece of ocean trash can be processed through recycling machines. This is Coral Island's primary material loop.

Complete Recycling Table

Trash Type Base Sell Recycled Output Output Sell Value Net Gain
๐Ÿฅค Plastic Bottle 3g 1 Plastic Scrap 5g +2g
๐Ÿฅซ Tin Can 4g 1 Copper Scrap 8g +4g
๐Ÿชต Driftwood 5g 2 Wood 4g โˆ’1g
๐Ÿ”ฉ Rusty Gear 8g 2 Iron Scrap 24g +16g
๐Ÿงต Old Cloth 3g 2 Fabric 10g +7g
๐Ÿชž Broken Glass 2g 2 Glass 6g +4g
๐Ÿ”— Rope 2g 1 Fiber 3g +1g
โš™๏ธ Machine Part 15g 1 Gold Scrap 20g +5g
โŒ› Ceramic Pot 6g 2 Clay 8g +2g
๐Ÿ”‹ Battery 12g 1 Scrap Battery 25g +13g
๐Ÿ“ฆ Cardboard 1g 1 Paper 2g +1g

Scrap โ†’ Refined Materials

Scrap Type Smelts Into Craft Value Use
Copper Scrap ร—3 1 Copper Bar 60g Tools, Sprinklers
Iron Scrap ร—3 1 Iron Bar 150g Upgraded tools, Machines
Gold Scrap ร—3 1 Gold Bar 400g Late tools, Jewelry
Osmium Scrap ร—3 1 Osmium Bar 1200g Endgame tools, Auto-collectors
Glass ร—5 2 Refined Glass 40g Windows, Decorations

Tip: Never sell Glass directly. Store it. Refined Glass is required for the Sprinkler II upgrade and for several museum donation rewards. You'll need 60+ Refined Glass for mid-game automation alone.

๐Ÿงน Cleanup Progression Strategy

First Pass (Days 3โ€“15) โ€” Profit Focus

Goal: Clear visible trash in Zone 1 and Zone 2. Sell most recyclable output immediately.

Priority Item Why
1 Rusty Gear Highest net gain per inventory slot (+16g)
2 Battery +13g per item
3 Machine Part +5g per item, but rare
4 Ceramic Pot +2g per item, good volume
Everything else โ€” Sell or recycle โ€” don't hoard yet

Expected income: 1500โ€“2500g per diving session (2 in-game hours)

Second Pass (Summer+ ) โ€” Materials Focus

Goal: Clean remaining trash, but keep all materials for upgrades.

Keep? Material Reason
โœ… Keep Iron Scrap, Gold Scrap Tool upgrades (watering can โ†’ iron, axe โ†’ gold)
โœ… Keep Glass, Refined Glass Sprinkler II ร— Sprinkler III path
โœ… Keep Osmium Scrap Rare โ€” every piece counts for Osmium tools
โŒ Sell Plastic, Rope, Cardboard Low value, no important crafts
โŒ Sell Driftwood Actually a net loss to recycle (โˆ’1g) โ€” sell raw instead

๐Ÿ‘พ Underwater Enemies

Not all underwater creatures are friendly. These will attack you:

Enemy Zone HP Attack Drop Strategy
๐Ÿฆ Aggressive Shrimp Zone 1โ€“2 20 Bump damage (8 HP) Shrimp Meat (sell 15g) Just swim away โ€” slower than you
๐Ÿก Pufferfish Zone 2โ€“3 40 Poison spit (15 HP + DoT) Toxic Spine (alchemy) Circle-strafe โ€” spit travels in a straight line
๐Ÿฆ‘ Ink Squid Zone 3โ€“4 60 Ink cloud (blinds 3s, 12 HP) Ink Sac (sell 25g) Swim upward when cloud appears โ€” cloud sinks
๐Ÿฆˆ Reef Shark Zone 4โ€“5 150 Bite charge (40 HP), Tail slap (25 HP) Shark Tooth (sell 80g) Never attack head-on. Hug walls, let it charge past, pick up loot behind it
๐Ÿ‘ป Phantom Jelly Zone 5 only 80 Shock tether (20 HP + stun 2s) Void Gel (rare crafting) Avoid entirely. Drops nothing worth fighting for

Tip: You don't need to kill anything underwater. Unlike mines, enemies don't block your path โ€” the ocean is open terrain. The only reason to fight is for a specific drop. Sharks drop Shark Tooth (80g) which makes them worth farming in Zone 4 for money.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Artifact Collecting

Underwater artifacts are essential for both the museum and cash.

Artifact Zone Rarity Museum Value Sell Price Notes
Coral Fragment 1โ€“2 Common 400 rep 50g Extremely common
Ancient Coin 2โ€“3 Uncommon 800 rep 200g Also donation quota filler
Sea Scroll 3 Uncommon 1000 rep 350g Multiple scrolls needed
Gold Idol 3โ€“4 Rare 1500 rep 800g Only 3 in the entire ocean
Crystal Skull 4 Rare 2000 rep 1200g Museum centerpiece
Star Shard 5 Legendary 3500 rep 2500g Drops from Phantom Jelly (1%)
Pearl Necklace 4 Rare 1800 rep 1000g Inside gold chests only
Ancient Tablet 5 Legendary 3000 rep 1800g Unlocks secret quest

Museum Donation Priority: 1. Donate 1 of each until the set is complete (bonus reward per set) 2. Sell all duplicates immediately โ€” they're worth more vendor gold than museum black pearls 3. Exception: Star Shard โ€” donate even duplicates; each donation grants +3500 rep (rep accelerates Ocean Rank)

๐Ÿ’จ Stamina & Oxygen Management

Diving uses a combined stamina/oxygen resource. Everything costs oxygen.

Action Oxygen Cost Notes
Swimming (empty) 1 / sec Base speed
Sprint swimming 3 / sec 2ร— speed, 3ร— oxygen burn
Collect trash 5 per item
Open chest 10 per chest
Fight (dodge) 15 per dodge
Passive regen โˆ’1 / 3 sec Only when standing still

Oxygen Tank Upgrades

Best Food for Diving

Food Oxygen Restore Effect Season Get
Seaweed Salad +50 Oโ‚‚ None All Craft (Kelp ร—2) โ€” costs nothing
Grilled Fish +100 Oโ‚‚ +3 DEF 5 min All Cook (Any Fish)
Coconut Water +80 Oโ‚‚ +1 SPD 3 min Summer Forage from palm trees
Clam Chowder +200 Oโ‚‚ +5 DEF 8 min Spring/Fall Cook (Clam + Milk + Potato)
Lobster Bisque +350 Oโ‚‚ +10 DEF 10 min Fall/Winter Cook (Lobster + Cream + Butter)

Tip: Seaweed Salad is the most oxygen-efficient food in the game. Each Kelp costs 0g (forage from Shoreline) and restores 50 Oโ‚‚. Carry 10 Seaweed Salads on every dive โ€” they're free, stack, and keep you underwater for an extra 500 Oโ‚‚ per inventory slot.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Profit Analysis: Diving vs. Fishing vs. Mining

Activity Early Game (Spring) Mid Game (Summer) Late Game (Fall+) Best Season
๐Ÿคฟ Diving 1500โ€“2500g/day 2000โ€“3500g/day 3000โ€“5000g/day Spring (no crop income yet)
๐ŸŽฃ Fishing 800โ€“1200g/day 1200โ€“2000g/day 2500โ€“4000g/day Fall (salmon run)
โ›๏ธ Mining 500โ€“1000g/day 3500โ€“6000g/day 5000โ€“8000g/day Summer (gold ore nodes)

Seasonal Diving Profit Notes

Season Adjustment
๐ŸŒธ Spring Diving is your #1 income source until crops mature. Day 3โ€“8 diving funds all seed purchases
โ˜€๏ธ Summer Mining overtakes diving. Shift focus โ€” mine for gold, dive only for artifacts and upgrades
๐Ÿ‚ Fall Diving picks up again (Coral Garden has a seasonal artifact spawn event). Shipwreck Field ร—2 drops
โ„๏ธ Winter Diving is viable year-round. Winter fishing drops but diving stays steady. Use to fund Osmium upgrades

๐Ÿš€ Deep Dive Tips

  1. Inventory management is critical. Each dive yields 20โ€“40 items. If your inventory fills, the best items (gold chests, Star Shards) decay after 30 seconds. Prioritize: Legendary artifacts > Gold chests > Gems > Metal scraps > Glass > Wood.
  2. Zone 2 is your farm spot. Coral Garden has the highest trash density per square meter. Run Zone 2 horizontally, collect everything, surface, recycle, repeat.
  3. Ocean Rank progression path: Bronze B (need 20 trash) โ†’ Silver B (need 100 trash) โ†’ Gold A (need 300 trash). Each rank doubles the area you can explore. Spend your early game rush on raw trash collection, not artifact hunting.
  4. Upgrade tank before fin speed. More oxygen lets you stay down longer = more trash per session. Fin speed doesn't help if you run out of oxygen.
  5. Gold chests spawn on a timer. Every 5 in-game hours in a fully-cleaned zone, a gold chest respawns. Farm Gold Chest routes once you reach Gold A rank.
  6. Rainy days double trash spawns. The storm stirs up the ocean floor โ€” new trash appears at 2ร— rate. Dive on every rainy day without exception.
