๐Ÿ”ง My Time at Sandrock Artisan Guide โ€” Processing, Refining, and Crafting

Sandrock is a workshop town. Unlike farming sims where crops drive the economy, Sandrock's money comes from processing raw materials into refined goods. Ore goes into the furnace, scrap goes into the recycler, and sand goes into the grinder. Understanding the processing chains โ€” and which ones make the most Gols per hour โ€” is the key to building a profitable workshop.

Tip: Never sell raw ore or scrap. Processed bars and refined materials sell for 2-5ร— the raw value. Your workshop machines are literally printing money โ€” keep them running 24/7.

๐Ÿญ Processing Machines Overview

You start with a basic Furnace and Recycler. More machines unlock as you level your workshop and buy blueprints from the Commerce Guild.

Machine Unlock Cost Input Output Speed
๐Ÿ”ฅ Furnace Starting Free Ore โ†’ Bars Copper / Iron / Steel / Manganese / Titanium 1 bar per 2h (base)
โ™ป๏ธ Recycler Starting Free Scrap โ†’ Materials Wood / Fiber / Rubber / Parts 1 item per 1h
โš™๏ธ Grinder Workshop Lv.2 1,200g Sand โ†’ Glass / Quartz Glass / Quartz Powder 1 per 40m
๐Ÿงต Loom Workshop Lv.3 2,500g Fiber โ†’ Fabric / Rope Cloth, Rope 1 per 2h
๐Ÿ”ฉ Compressor Workshop Lv.4 3,500g Bars โ†’ Alloy Plates Steel Plate, Manganese Plate 1 per 3h
โš—๏ธ Refiner Workshop Lv.5 5,000g Processed โ†’ Premium Refined Quartz, Pure Silicon 1 per 4h
๐Ÿชต Drying Rack Workshop Lv.2 800g Food โ†’ Preserved Dried Food, Jerky 1 per 6h

Workshop Layout Rule: Place machines with 1 tile of space between them. You'll need room to walk around and collect outputs. A 3ร—3 grid of mixed machines fits nicely in a medium workshop.

Tip: Build 2-3 furnaces before anything else. Ore processing is your bottleneck in early game. One furnace can't keep up with your mining output once you're past the copper age.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Furnace โ€” Ore to Bars

The furnace is your most important machine. Every bar you smelt is worth 3-5ร— the raw ore.

Ore Type Raw Value (1 piece) Smelted Bar Bar Sell Price Profit Multiplier
๐Ÿฅ‰ Copper Ore 5 Gols Copper Bar 60 Gols 12ร—
๐Ÿฅˆ Iron Ore 8 Gols Iron Bar 100 Gols 12.5ร—
โš™๏ธ Scrap Iron 3 Gols Iron Bar (mixed) 100 Gols 8ร—
๐Ÿ”ฉ Steel Scrap 12 Gols Steel Bar 160 Gols 3.3ร—
โš”๏ธ Manganese Ore 20 Gols Manganese Bar 280 Gols 3.5ร—
๐Ÿ’Ž Titanium Ore 35 Gols Titanium Bar 500 Gols 3.6ร—

Processing Math: 5 Copper Ore (25 Gols) โ†’ 1 Copper Bar (60 Gols) = +35 Gols profit per bar. In a 2-hour cycle, that's 17.5 Gols/hour per furnace. Seems small, but 3 furnaces running 12 hours = 630 Gols from copper alone.

Furnace Upgrade Priority

Upgrade Cost Effect Priority
๐Ÿ”ฅ Fuel Efficiency 1,000g -20% fuel per bar โญ Medium
โฑ๏ธ Speed Upgrade 2,000g -30% smelt time โญโญโญ High
๐Ÿ”„ Batch Processing 3,000g Smelt 2 bars at once โญโญโญ Highest
๐Ÿงช Quality Boost 2,500g +1 quality tier on bars โญโญ Medium

Tip: Batch Processing is the single best furnace upgrade. It effectively doubles your furnace capacity. Get it before Speed Upgrade โ€” double output beats 30% faster for the same cost.

โš™๏ธ Grinder โ€” Sand and Glass

The grinder turns desert sand into valuable glass and quartz products. Sand is literally free (it's everywhere) and glass sells for 80 Gols per piece.

Input Output Time Sell Price Profit/Hour Notes
Sand ร—3 Glass ร—1 40m 80 Gols 120 Gols/h โœ… Best early profit
Sand ร—5 Clear Glass ร—1 1h 120 Gols 120 Gols/h Same profit, better for crafting
Quartz ร—2 Quartz Powder ร—1 30m 50 Gols 100 Gols/h Used in advanced recipes
Sand ร—2 + Dye Colored Glass ร—1 1.5h 150 Gols 100 Gols/h Festivals only

The Sand Economy: One inventory load of sand (20 pieces) can be gathered in about 2 minutes on the eastern dunes. That's 6-7 glass pieces = 480-560 Gols from 2 minutes of work. Sand grinding is the single best low-effort moneymaker in early Sandrock.

Tip: Set up 2 Grinders as soon as you can afford them. One dedicated to glass, one for quartz powder. Glass funds your early workshop expansion, and quartz powder is needed for later upgrades anyway.

โ™ป๏ธ Recycler โ€” Scrap to Materials

The recycler turns the junk you find in ruins, alleys, and the scrapyard into usable materials. It's the best way to get wood in the desert (trees are scarce) and nets you rare parts.

Scrap Type Input Output Options Best Output Time
๐Ÿชต Wood Scrap 1 Wood ร—2-4, Fiber ร—1 Wood ร—4 1h
๐Ÿ”ฉ Metal Scrap 1 Iron Ore ร—2-3, Copper Ore ร—2 Iron Ore ร—3 1h
๐Ÿ”ง Machinery Scrap 1 Steel Bar ร—1, Springs ร—1, Parts ร—2 Parts ร—2 1.5h
๐Ÿงช Chemical Scrap 1 Acid ร—1, Dye ร—1, Oil ร—1 Oil ร—1 1h
โ™ป๏ธ Mixed Scrap 1 Random (low tier) Varies 1h

Scrap Hunting Routes

Location Best Scrap Type Respawn Time Per Run Value
๐Ÿš๏ธ Abandoned Ruins (E-1) Machinery Scrap Daily ~400 Gols
๐Ÿš‚ Train Yard Metal + Wood Scrap 2 days ~300 Gols
๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Town Alleyways Mixed Scrap 3 days ~150 Gols
๐Ÿœ๏ธ Desert Oasis Chemical Scrap Weekly ~200 Gols

Tip: Always pick up Machinery Scrap โ€” it's the rarest and gives the most valuable outputs. Springs and Parts are used in almost every advanced blueprint. Wood Scrap is common but vital since trees don't grow fast in the desert.

๐Ÿงต Loom โ€” Fabric Production

The loom turns plant fiber into cloth, rope, and fabric. It's crucial for clothing, furniture, and high-end workshop upgrades.

Recipe Fiber Needed Time Output Sell Price Use Case
Cloth 10 2h 1 Cloth 150 Gols Furniture, clothing
Rope 8 1.5h 2 Rope 80 Gols (ร—2=160) Machines, decorations
Silk Fabric 15 3h 1 Silk 250 Gols Luxury furniture
Canvas 12 2.5h 1 Canvas 200 Gols Workshop upgrades

Fiber Sources: Harvest from desert bushes (renewable every 3 days), grow cotton on your farm, or buy from the Commerce Guild for 8 Gols each. Growing cotton is the most efficient โ€” 1 cotton plant gives 5-8 fiber per harvest.

Tip: Rope is more efficient than Cloth for pure profit โ€” 16 fiber (8 fiber ร— 2 rope) = 160 Gols vs 10 fiber = 150 Gols for cloth. But cloth is needed for more recipes. Run both.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Profit Optimization โ€” Best Processing Chains

These are the most profitable processing chains ranked by Gols per hour.

Early Game (Workshop Lv.1-3)

Chain Steps Investment Profit/Day Best For
๐Ÿฅ‡ Sand โ†’ Glass 1 step (Grinder) 1,200g 1,440 Gols โœ… Best early moneymaker
๐Ÿฅˆ Scrap โ†’ Parts 1 step (Recycler) Free 600-800 Gols Passive income
๐Ÿฅ‰ Ore โ†’ Bar 1 step (Furnace) Free 400-600 Gols Core progression

Mid Game (Workshop Lv.4-5)

Chain Steps Profit/Day Notes
๐Ÿฅ‡ Ore โ†’ Bar โ†’ Plate 2 steps (Furnace + Compressor) 2,400-3,200 Gols Alloy plates sell high
๐Ÿฅˆ Fiber โ†’ Cloth + Rope 2 steps (Cotton + Loom) 1,800 Gols Requires cotton planting
๐Ÿฅ‰ Sand โ†’ Quartz โ†’ Refined 2 steps (Grinder + Refiner) 2,000 Gols Refined quartz sells for 300g

Late Game (Workshop Lv.5+)

Chain Steps Profit/Day Notes
๐Ÿฅ‡ Titanium Ore โ†’ Titanium Bar โ†’ Alloy 2 steps 6,000+ Gols Best endgame chain
๐Ÿฅˆ Complex Scrap โ†’ Rare Parts โ†’ Assemblies 2-3 steps 4,000-5,000 Gols Parts are always in demand
๐Ÿฅ‰ Mixed Chains (build to order) Variable 8,000-10,000 Gols Commission-focused

โšก Best Processing Chains by Goal

Goal Best Chain Why
๐Ÿ’ฐ Pure Profit Sand โ†’ Glass (early) / Titanium Alloy (late) Lowest effort, highest margin
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Commission Prep Ore โ†’ Bar โ†’ Plate Most commissions need plates
๐Ÿ  House Building Wood Scrap โ†’ Wood + Fiber โ†’ Rope House upgrades need tons of rope
๐ŸŽ Gifting Fiber โ†’ Cloth โ†’ Tailored Clothing High friendship value
โš”๏ธ Combat Prep Ore โ†’ Manganese/Steel Bar โ†’ Weapon Parts Weapon upgrades need specific bars

Tip: Don't optimize purely for profit. Check the Commerce Guild board daily for commissions. Some "sub-optimal" chains earn more via commissions than selling on the open market. A commission asking for 5 Glass Panels pays 200% of market price.

๐Ÿชต Drying Rack โ€” Passive Food Income

The drying rack preserves food for longer storage and slightly higher sell prices.

Input Output Time Sell Price Notes
Meat ร—1 Jerky ร—1 6h 120 Gols 3ร— base meat value
Cactus ร—3 Dried Cactus ร—1 4h 80 Gols Decent filler
Fish ร—1 Dried Fish ร—1 5h 100-180 Gols Depends on fish type
Fruit ร—5 Dried Fruit ร—1 6h 150 Gols Not worth it

Tip: Drying racks are low-priority early on. Build 1 after your furnaces and grinders are set up. Jerky is the most profitable โ€” meat from hunting is abundant and sells for 40g raw but 120g dried.

๐Ÿ“Š Quick Reference โ€” Machine Count

Phase Furnaces Grinders Recyclers Looms Compressors Refiners
๐ŸŒฑ Early (Lv.1-2) 2-3 1-2 1 0 0 0
๐ŸŒฟ Mid (Lv.3-4) 3-4 2 2 1 1 1
๐ŸŒณ Late (Lv.5+) 4-6 3 2 2 2 2

Tip: These counts assume you're doing full-day mining runs. If you commission-hunt more, add an extra Furnace. If you sand-grind more, add Grinders. Adjust based on your playstyle.
