🏮 Halcyon Days at Taoyuan Guides
BotanX's Chinese folklore farming sim | Released January 20, 2026 | PC (Steam) | "Very Positive" (89%)
Halcyon Days at Taoyuan (桃源村日志) is a cozy farming and life sim set in Taoyuan Village — a hidden village straight out of the Peach Blossom Spring (桃花源记) fable, cut off from the outside world for a thousand years. You play an outsider who lands in the village and takes up a farm, then slowly pulls it into the community: trading by barter, exploring caves, befriending pandas, racing dragon boats, and even getting married in a full Chinese-style wedding. It's been described as "the Stardew Valley of Chinese folklore," and the recent V1.1 flower update (June 2026) plus the V1.1.1 patch (late July 2026) have kept it growing all summer.

The Hook
Most farming games give you a shipping bin and a wallet. Halcyon Days at Taoyuan throws both away — there's no currency in the village at all. Everything runs on barter: every item has a hidden Contribution Value, and to get something you offer items whose values add up to exactly what you want. A tree you chop becomes the trade-good that buys your first tool upgrades; donating to the village earns vouchers worth a tenth of an item's value. It's a small, elegant twist that makes every foraging trip feel like a real trade route — and it's the single thing that makes this game feel unlike any other cozy farming sim.
